VASE, based in New Haven, CT, is a Construction Management and Real Estate Development Company specializing in new construction, renovation, and the alteration of existing buildings and infrastructure, and serving clients statewide.

VASE is currently looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated, and experienced Junior Estimator to join our team. The successful candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in a construction related field or equivalent combinations of technical training and experience. This opportunity requires a minimum of 7 years of commercial construction experience with extensive knowledge of understanding budgets, design, and estimates, scheduling, purchasing and overall project management. This position will provide management direction for multiple projects at a given time and assistance with preparing bids and proposals to secure new work. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.  

What You’ll Bring to VASE/ Job Summary: 

We are seeking an experienced Junior Estimator to join our construction team. The Estimator will be responsible for assisting the Chief Estimator, accurately estimating the costs of construction projects and providing detailed proposals to clients. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively communicate with clients and project teams.

Responsibilities:

  1. Review project plans, specifications, and other relevant documents to determine the scope of work and materials required

  2. Conduct site visits to gather information and assess project requirements

  3. Utilize estimating software and tools to prepare accurate cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors

  4. Collaborate with Chief Estimator, project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to develop comprehensive project proposals

  5. Analyze project risks and opportunities, and provide recommendations for cost-saving measures

  6. Prepare detailed take-offs and quantity surveys for various construction trades

  7. Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing

  8. Monitor project costs throughout the construction process and provide regular updates to stakeholders

  9. Participate in pre-bid meetings and post-bid presentations as required

  10. Architects are encouraged to apply

Experience:

  1. Proven experience in construction estimating, preferably in commercial or industrial projects

  2. Strong knowledge of construction management principles, practices, and techniques

  3. Proficiency in using estimating software such as RS Means, Bluebeam, or similar tools

  4. Excellent mathematical skills with the ability to perform complex calculations

  5. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in estimating costs

  6. Effective communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients, team members, and subcontractors

  7. Familiarity with project management principles is a plus
